How to Remove a Background from a Photo for Free

Removing a background used to require Photoshop. Today you can do it in seconds with an AI tool — for free, directly in your browser, with no account required. This guide covers portraits, product photos and any image where you want a transparent or replaced background.

What the tool does

Step 2 — Upload your photo

Drag your image onto the drop zone or click to browse. JPG, PNG and WebP are supported. The tool works best on images where the subject is clearly distinct from the background — a person against a wall, a product on a table.

Step 3 — Download the transparent PNG

The AI processes the image and shows a side-by-side preview of the original and the result with the background removed. Click Download to save the transparent PNG.

Get the best results

  • Use good lighting. Even lighting with no harsh shadows makes subject edges cleaner.
  • High contrast helps. A subject that contrasts with the background (dark subject on light background, or vice versa) gives the AI more to work with.
  • Avoid busy backgrounds. A plain, single-colour background produces the cleanest cutout.
  • Shoot at a higher resolution. More pixels give the model more edge detail to work with.

Replace the background instead of removing it
